It´s my holidays this week. This means I can traipse around getting all the little jobs done that have been neglected. I can pop into the bank and see who is responsible for looking after my money and I can go to the battery shop to change my batteries.
This changing of the batteries is an area often neglected and the garage door will be much happier now that I have a new battery on the transmitter. Instead of sticking halfway up or halfway down every time I use the clicker I can now expect 100 % effort from the electrics.
I´m even contemplating a great new present for Christmas. I´ll just send everyone batteries. We can collate a set of batteries and send them out as a standard gift set. We could encourage newlyweds to put this on their presents list….

It is a National Fiesta. Here outside the studios of OCI I could park my car easily as most of the locals are still in bed. This is an absolute luxury.
In the UK the papers now confirm what we have all come to know only too well. Britain is drinking and drugging itself into a major problem. Whilst this is worrying enough the pound has fallen yet again against the dollar. Then, here is yet another stark warning………..
Obesity poses as grave a threat to Britain and the NHS as terrorism, a Government adviser has warned. Are we in the slightest bit surprised?

We did it again yesterday - our Nap was LAA RAYB and he was a 17/2 second - how do we do it …. no, why do we do it??!!!
We won´t discuss the UEFA Cup qualifiers because that would meanbeing rude about Manchester City. We´ll go to the Olympics instead and take our hat off to that icon of the games, Michael Phelps - twelve golds now and more to come. Djokovic against Nadal in the tennis today should be a corker.
Today´s horse selections later, but a mention of a race tomorrow. Ripon is host to the Great St. Wilfred sprint handicap which is another of those cavalry charges. KNOT ON WOOD has been very unlucky in big races at Ascot and Goodwood this season and I hope his rails draw in trap one will be OK - his price of 10/1 certainly is.

I found a motivational video which is worth a moment of your time if you´re in selling. This is a contact from my motivational speakers ho appear on my website at www.vincetracy.com/motivationalspeakers.html. I think recession can bring out the best in people and I am not alone in these ideas.
Meanwhile, the scientists claim to have proven what many teachers have said for years. If a kid eats junk then don´t be surprised if rubbish comes out of his brain. Having worked with many overweight pupils in schools and especially schools where Physical Education has been stopped this is commonsense written large. However, you can only blame schools for curriculum and delivery. The parents must take their share of the blame and the teenagers must accept their responsibilities. One of those responsibilities is to look after the body you´ve been given.
The Guardian outlines the magnificent achievements of students gaining Á´levels in the UK at Á´grades. This tends to show that there is a widening brains gap. The very clever doing exceptionally well at school and record numbers staying away from school or failing exams. How does a Government get out of that one?
The Olympics roll on and great performances abound. Team GB are not doing so well in the Judo. I am surprised by this as they did have good role models in Brian Jacks, Neil Adams and Dave Starbrook at a time when money had not been invested in the sport. Like a lot of things more money invested doesn´t always reap the rewards. Meanwhile, Seb Coe doesn´t see much light at the end of the Athletics tunnel and will be surprised to see any major British success on the podium. He will know far better than myself but I still fancy a little surprise or two. I particularly liked watching Rooney in the 400 metres and hope he goes well. I hasten to add his first name is not Wayne!
I watched my team, Liverpool, playing at Standard Liege last night and we were lucky to escape with a draw. I wasn´t the only one to spot the fact that having sold Peter Crouch they played the ball as if he was still playing for them with high crosses into the penalty area. The claim to have the most amazing strike force was always going to be tenuous and unless we improve I can´t see Liverpool finishing higher than fourth in the Premier League. We´ll even need to play much better to get into the Champions League.

Hi Vince.
Liverpool were a little fortunate last night but no such problems for Arsenal. Looking at Saturday´s Premier League fixtures I think Portsmouth could cause an early season surprise at Stamford Bridge.
At the Olympics we have the first medals to be won in the bird´s nest stadium as the track and field begins tomorrow. The first final is the women´s 10,000 metres but I´m afraid Btitain´s Jo Pavey is a 250/1 shot.
Our horse yesterday was Murcar but he could only manage third. As you are not on the air tomorrow, a couple for the weekend. At Newbury on Friday SHYRL is a horseI´ve been waiting for and Simon Callaghan´s charge is due to run in the 2.20 5f sprint. Another big sprint at Ripon on Saturday - the 4.00 Great St Wilfred handicap where a high draw is normally a big advantage. Given a decent draw KNOT IN WOOD is overdue a decent win after going close at Ascot and Goodwood lately and will carry my money. Today´s selections later.

There´s a ludicrous piece of advice for the youngsters of Britain from the Schools Minister. If you read it for yourselves you´ll see he recommends reading the Sun Newspaper. Meanwhile, on BBC Breakfast we have a discussion as to whether there´s a need for handwriting. Personally, I see this as a graphic explanation of why Britain is freewheeling down the slopes to failure.
In fact you really see it all in the first page of today´s edition of the Sun. To the left we see the pain and suffering in Georgia. To the right we have an illustration of Boris Becker enjoying his love for the new lady in his life. Who the hell needs to know this? More to the point which sub editor feels it important enough to adorn the front page of a national newspaper.
I´m all for sport. I loved playing many sports and I love watching most sports. However, I fail to see that the Ólympic Spirit´is about a weightlifter straining past a physical breakdown with the possibility of becoming permanently damaged for the rest of my life. Maybe that´s why I would never make an Olympian?

On Monday our´cert´ got a couple of slaps over the nose from a jockey´s whip. Yesterday´s ´cert´ Lochstar got his one back for the horses by dumping his little rider at the start and galloping off on his own. No lasting damage to the jockey but the horse was withdrawn so we got our money back.
Today punters should take note that crack French trainer Andre Fabre brings a horse over to Salisbury to run in the 4.05 listed race. The horse is IN THE LIGHT and I think the idea is to qualify the nag for a race in England in a couple of weeks - Ryan Moore rides.
Trainer Clive Cox said the following about MURCAR -
“He was beaten by a progressive horse last time so I don’t think there’s a question about him getting a mile and six. His family improve with age and he’s still in 0-70 and is a horse that should be on anyone’s list for future winners and is due to run at Sandown in a 14 furlong 0-80 handicap for three year olds on August 13 which looks quite appealing.”
The race is at 8.00, Phillip Robinson rides and you should get about 6/1.
Sport is an importonent component in any society. Part of my job is to find important information within sport to include in my programmes. There are those that find it difficult to think outside the box. There is a feeling that sport exists on its own. I beg to differ.
For example, a whole nation is lifted when an Olympian wins a medal. There is a psychological lift to a great percentage of a population. There are some who will say it doesn´t affect them. Look around all the people with whom you interact. There will be a number that have been uplifted.
There are the sports competitors themselves who will have major ups and downs. Andy Murray, the tennis star ranked at number 6 after a great tournament win, has been knocked out at the first hurdle at the Olympic Games by a rank outsider. He will feel hard done by and some of his fans will feel let down.
The young diver,
Tom Dale, has not seen eye to eye with his diving partner, Blake Aldridge. It would seem there is a rivalry within the partnership. It is hard to be the neglected one in a media frenzy directed at young Tom. However, this is an aspect of sport which shows how valuable life lessons can be learnt whilst at the biggest sports event in the world.
The rivalry between
Australia and England is all pervasive.
Australian Olympic Committee president John Coates was quizzed on whether he thought yesterday’s gold medal win by Brit swimming sensation Rebecca Adlington was a surprise.
Coates congratulated Britain and said we had done well – for a country ‘lacking in pools and soap’. This will develop and it will be interesting to see whether the 60 million Brits will outperform the 16 million Australians.
Elsewhere the England cricket team has just defeated their South African rivals in the test match. Their new captain is from….South Africa. I rest my case. In case you still doubt me ask yourself why half the newspapers contain stories connected with sport and huge sums of money are exchanged in football´s money-go-round almost every week of the year. If you´re still not convinced then please don´t get too much sand in your eyes whilst you´ve got your head buried.

A mixed day for us yesterday. Exceptional Art won nicely for us, then it was the turn of our ´cert´, Meydan Dubai. He came to challenge the favourite for the lead a furlong out only for Dane O´Neill, the jockey on the leader, to give our fella a couple of cracks on the nose with his whip! Understandably he shied away a bit and finnished fourth - it bit unlucky !!!
Well done to England´s cricketers, but Andy Murray ……. well there´s still the doubles.
In a week when the start of the Premier League is grabbing the football headlines, the lesser lights fight out the first round of the Carling Cup. All the betting later.
Awful weather in the UK has seen the meeting at Newton Abbott to be cancelled today. I´ll try to get an up-date on the going for the other meetings before making our selections.

Like many people I have been keen to watch some of the Olympic Games. It was terrific to see Nicole Cooke win the Gold Medal for the cycling. However, there is still so much suffering elsewhere in the world and certainly on the news bulletins.
The carnage in Georgia is awful. Russia is taking a heavy hand with a minnow although most can see oil and gas pipelines as the motive for much of this madness. The price of crude oil has already jumped this morning and the profiteers will be rubbing their hands whilst thousands die.
Back in England we have more and even more madness. A couple of Chinese students have been found murdered in Newcastle. To most this madness seems to lurch from one crisis to the next.
Meanwhile it would seem that Madelaine is not to be forgotten. I sincerely hope they find this little girl but I did feel this morning that one or two of the pictures shown as a likeness did not really fit the bill.

Everyone will have their own highlights of an exciting sporting weekend but for me it was Padraig Harrington´s win in the USPGA. Back to back wins in majors for the Irishman and another three Europeans in the top ten.
British women have won two slightly unexpected gold medals at the Olympics and if the weather forecast is right we will geta result at the Oval - but will it be the result we want?
The FA have made a big thing about football players showing respect to referees, then in the first showpiece of the season they put a man in the middle who thinks that rugby tackles in the penalty area are OK and allows Edwin van der Sar to go ´walk-about´ while the Portsmouth players are waiting to take their penalties. You earn respect - it´s not a given!
A poor end to the week for our racing selections after having three in a row at the start. Two turf meetings today and one all-weather for us to get back to winning
The British contingent at the Olympics have arrived with optimism and with two ´golds´already snatched from them by events. The boxer who would have won gold and Paula Radcliffe who is injured. All this notwithstanding, the management believe this will be the most successful ever British team.
The Spanish team gathered for their photoshoot with the Prince of Asturias mingling with the team. They look very happy and relaxed and epitomise what the games are all about.
Back in England the French manage now to rip off their English customers whilst price capping their customers in France. Barmy!

Our ´cert´ yesterday was relegated to the bench when Sir Alex Ferguson´s Last Three Minutes was declared a non-runner.
Seventy two teams start the new football league season this weekend and for twenty four of them the dream of Premier League status gets a touch of reality. The prices later. At the Oval England go into day two of the last test against South Africa in an unusual position - they´re favourites !! Surely they can put that right before the end of the day !!
If Osama Bin Laden has a wish list surely an invitation to the The Bird´s Nest Stadium today where he´d have eighty heads of state to take aim at. Yes it´s the start of the Olympics and talk is of the GB teams bringing home up to fifteen gold medals. Considering their best ever total is eleven that may seem ambitious.
At Newnarket tomorrow I take THE LEGAL BLOND in the Solaro Stakes - a good second at Glorious Goodwood I think Tom Dascombe´s filly can go one better. Today´s selections later.
Britain is still plunging to the depths of depravity. The news bulletins become even more bizarre and I really only feel like pointing you in the direction of reading

After three winning´certs´ in row the best we could do yesterday was a fast finnishing second for Black´n´Brew, but I wasn´t very happy with either of our jockies - both missed the break and you can´t do that on the tight Kempton course.
The South Africa 4th test at the Oval today, but the bookies don´t think that a new captain is going to make much difference - England are 10/3 to win, but they make the draw favourite. At Oakland Hills there are only two Americans in the top ten of the betting for the USPGA . Lee Westwood is in great form and is a 20/1 shot but I´ve taken a three-figure price against CHRIS DE MARCO.
