*** Article: Nike Says it Best…Just Do It! – By Caroline Makepeace ***

I’ve been thinking lately of how I could put together a list of success principles based on my travel achievements. I’ve lived a pretty adventurous, courageous and successful life travelling the globe. You don’t do that unless you possess certain qualities and character traits. I wanted to put together something as to how anyone could apply these same principles to other aspects of their life and achieve the same success. Success principles work no matter what avenue you use them for.
I sat down to think about it and put some ideas together when I reached a blank. I thought I would come up immediately with a list I must have had to get me travelling around the world but no list came. I reflected deeply on all the countries I visited, all the experiences I had, the people I formed friendships with and I said to myself “Okay Caroline, how did you do it? How did you have these incredible adventures to 33 countries and live in 5? What was it about you that gave you the ability to do all that?”
My response was “I just did it!” ‘I just did it”. There is no other answer. Sure there were many other qualities and character traits that gave me the ability to have the experiences but none of them really mattered unless I stepped on to that plane and did it. People always said to me how lucky and brave I was and wished they could do the same. But I never could quite understand where they were coming from because I knew they could do the same. For me it was easy, luck played no part, I just did it. I just stepped on the plane and went and never looked back.
I knew what I wanted and I took ACTION!
Did I possess many strong success traits before I did it? Probably not or none that I was aware of. I was young and immature and didn’t know anything about anything. All I knew was that I wanted to travel and so I just did it. I just hopped on that plane and went.
Did I have a lot of money? No I turned up in London with no home, no job and a couple of hundred bucks. That didn’t matter, I knew what I wanted and so I just did it!
Did I have much experience? No! It was the first time I had lived away from the safety and security of my parents. My first experience living on my own was in the city of London, knowing no one, with no money. Experience didn’t matter, I just did it.
I didn’t have support either. I was on my own but I found a lot of support and made great friendships after I just did it!
Did I develop strong character traits along the way that helped me to continue my journeys and grow as a person? Absolutely! I wouldn’t be who I am today had I not travelled. It shaped me as an amazingly, strong and confident person. Would I be this person now if I never took the action toward my dream in the first place? No! Thank God, I just did it!
What is it in your life that you want to do or achieve? What is it that is holding you back? Lack of money or experience? Irrelevant. Lack of friends or support? Irrelevant. Wrong timing? No strengths, skills or talents? All irrelevant. You can find a million reasons why you can’t do it but that’s not going to get you what you want and shape you to be who you want to be. You’ve got nothing to lose but everything to gain. All that matters is what you want.
Nike said it the best- ‘Just do it!’ Those 3 simple words speak so much about the call to your action. Just take the first step. All the rest will come later. You’re missing out on a wild, fun ride because of your inability to take action. Just do it and success will find you!
Just do it…..

*** Article: 10 Keys to Finding Your Purpose and Achieving Your Goals – By Kay L. Fontana ***
————————————————————
Are you looking for a strategy to help you achieve your goals? Do you set goals, but never follow through with them? Do you have big dreams but don’t know how to turn them into reality?
At some point, you have probably heard of S.M.A.R.T. goals: Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Timely. I tried this strategy a number of times and found the concept to be extremely helpful in terms of key elements to a goal one can achieve. However, I felt the method was missing some key components that would help me define what my goals should be, and how I was going to reach those goals. That’s when I developed the POWERDRIVE to Success method.
The following are 10 key ingredients to defining your goals and putting them into action:
P — Purpose. Your purpose in life has a significant correlation to your success in achieving goals. When you know what your purpose is in life, everything you do from that point forward that is directly related to your purpose, has value and meaning.
Defining your life’s purpose can be achieved by looking into key areas of your life: your dreams as a child, your values in life, your personality type preferences, your gifts and strengths, and your roles at home, work and in the community. These areas should be careful thought out in a discovery process, primarily because these elements may not be completely obvious to you.
O — Optimize your time. Understanding your internal clock and when you are most productive during the day can significantly affect how quickly you achieve your goals. Not everyone can rise in the early morning ready to tackle the biggest challenges. If you are a night owl, your most important tasks and projects may require time later in the day when you are at your peak.
W — Write it down. You must write down your intentions. Unless you write down your goals, you will probably not achieve them. Remember, out of sight — out of mind. Your goals should include sub-goals and daily or weekly activities to maximize the process, and to ensure you are conducting yourself in a manner that leads to success.
E — Empower yourself. We all need to be empowered, but we must also learn to empower ourselves. Accepting responsibility for our own destiny and achieving our goals is empowering. When we allow others to steal our dreams, we risk giving in to our own negative self-talk and self-destructive behavior.
R — Release negative thoughts and fears. Our fears are often unrealistic and created from “dream stealers.” Learning to control our negative thoughts can help us move forward with our goals. It’s not always easy to confront dream stealers; however, by using a few strategies, you can reduce the risk of the dream stealers “getting into your head.” Stay focused and positive.
D — Dream Big! What we want, we can have. So if your dreams are small, you will get small things. If you are going to dream, dream big so big things begin to happen. That is how world records are set and people do the unthinkable. Push yourself beyond what is expected and you will achieve remarkable things!
R — Relationships. Building relationships and connecting with people who see your vision and support your success helps you stay accountable for your actions. This brings greater success.
When setting goals, invite friends, family, co-workers and others to share your vision, dreams and plan of action. They must, however, be positive and supportive in nature and sincerely interested in your success.
I — Immediate action. Why put off until tomorrow what you can do today? Procrastination is our enemy, so take action and do it now.
V — Visualize success. Have your dreams and goals visible to you everyday so you can be constantly reminded of what you want in life. Again, out of sight — out of mind, so know what you want and visualize it daily.
Using a vision or dream board, or writing your goals down where you can look at them frequently, can be of great value to you on your journey. These are reminders to stay focused on your goal.
E — Everyday. Success comes from creating daily positive habits that contribute to your success. Doing something every day toward your goals will only create success that much faster.

*** Book Review: The Truth: I’m a Girl, I’m Smart and I Know Everything – By Dr. Barbara Becker Holstein ***
————————————————————
THE TRUTH is a delightful, humorous secret diary, written by a girl who is 10-11 years of age. She is wise and yet innocent. Her words acknowledge those priceless truths that we all knew as kids. She makes us cry and laugh and see ourselves. Everybody loves reading her thoughts, secrets, adventures and solutions to difficult problems. Girls are naturally curious and this book gives them a real opportunity to see how a girl like themselves in so many ways handles her toughest problems and most personal thoughts. Mom can read the book along with her daughter and not only be brought back to herself as a youngster, but find on every page relevant topics for discussion with her daughter. How do you handle a bully? How do you handle a crush on a boy? What about teasing? How do you find time to listen to your daughter? Do we have enough fun together? What really matters? There is space right within the book for the girl and or mom to make notes or her own diary entries. The book ends with discussion ideas that can also open up whole new areas of topics for mom and daughter or the young reader and other members of her family, friends, or teachers. Behind this very easy read, written by a positive psychologist with over 25 years of clinical experience, is the psychological message to the girls reading THE TRUTH that they can and must keep the fire and passion of their girlhoods as they grow up and have the courage to carry the most precious parts of themselves into adulthood. For parents the book is a way back to what made them feel most special at 10 or 11. Once parents are back in the place where their kids live, then listening, trust and real sharing can begin. Every girl and ever parent wants this kind of TRUTH!
