Bizarre!

banner22-457x112I really cannot believe what I saw this afternoon. Liverpool played Fulham off the park yet lost 3-1. Benitez took off his two best players and the referee robbed him of two of his team towards the end of the game. Neither of the players should have been sent off. The referee has, yet again, spoilt a Premier League game. Pathetic. What the heck were the other officials doing? Who punishes a really bad referee? How is he punished? Are they punished? Anyway, I reckon the league title will be between Chelsea and Arsenal.

As it’s Hallowe’en here come the jokes………

Bat Story

A vampire bat came flapping in from the night covered in
fresh blood and parked himself on the roof of the cave to
get some sleep.

Pretty soon all the other bats smelled the blood and began
hassling him about where he got it. He told them to knock it
off and let him get some sleep, but they persisted in
hassling him to no end until finally he gave in.

“OK!” he said with exasperation. “Follow me,” and he flew
out of the cave with hundreds of bats following close behind
him.

Down through the valley they went, across the river, and
into the deep forest. Finally he slowed down, and all the
other bats excitedly gathered around him.

“Do you see that tree over there?” he asked.

“Yes, yes, yes!” the bats all screamed in a frenzy.

“Good,” said the first bat, “because I DIDN’T!”

Best Marksman

One of the best marksmen in the FBI was passing through a
small town. Everywhere he saw evidence of the most amazing
shooting. On trees, on walls, and on fences there were
numerous bull’s-eyes with the bullet hole in dead center.

The FBI man asked one of the townsmen if he could meet the
person responsible for this wonderful marksmanship. The man
turned out to be the village idiot.

“This is the best marksmanship I have ever seen,” said the
FBI man. “How in the world do you do it?”

“Nothing to it,” said the idiot. “I shoot first and draw the
circles afterward.”

Alhambra Palace in Granada
The Alhambra is Spain’s most visited tourist attraction with over
two million annual visitors. The city of Granada is also fabulous
so time permitting don’t be in too much of a rush to leave the
place. A pleasant surprise to many is that tapas are free with
drinks in the city’s bars. No wonder a third of the city’s
population is made up of students!

Cholesterol

banner22-457x112
Today is Hallowe’en and it is a big day in the religious calendar. It was boiling hot and I overheated most of the day.   One of our Spanish neighbours was telling me that this has been the most unusual autumn in living memory. I have no complaints. In fact, I stuck my toe in the pool today.

Anne is continuing her battle to get fit again and is up and about walking as much as possible every day. The stitches come out on Tuesday and she walked up to see the little people this afternoon. No. I haven’t forgotten and I am still going to tell you about them in due course. They were very excited today as they were celebrating Hallowe’en.

I was having a go at the hoaxers on the internet yesterday and it is not surprising that others feel as angry as I do. Here´s another scam which we are told to ignore.

Here’s the rebel doctor with another tangent to traditional medicine…………………….

As usual, mainstream science is turning in my favour and backing up my carefree lifestyle. See for yourself…

1. HIGHER cholesterol makes you far less likely to die…

FACT: Lowering cholesterol can make heart disease worse. A review of medical studies on cholesterol and mortality in heart patients found that lower cholesterol levels led to death ––not survival, like the drug companies want you to think.

FACT: Low cholesterol can trigger the deadliest kind of stroke. It’s called a massive stroke and it happens when blood vessels in your brain are so weak, they burst open. Any cholesterol count below 200 is a red flag for this kind of stroke.

FACT: Low cholesterol may raise your cancer risk. Yes, a new study actually links low LDL levels with an increased risk of developing cancer. And it’s not the first one. In fact, more than 20 studies have been done on cholesterol and cancer. And the overall majority linked cancer with low cholesterol!

How could all this be so? For the same reason that your body makes its own cholesterol. It’s a vital nutrient! Cholesterol is a necessary building block for your immune system and especially your brain cells. In fact…

2. HIGHER cholesterol may improve your memory, stave off depression and even protect you from Alzheimer’s…

Believe it or not, healthy brain cells are chock full of cholesterol. Yup, 25% of your body’s cholesterol is in your brain. It fuels the electrical impulses that make thinking possible. Plus, studies show…

FACT: Low cholesterol impairs brain function. It’s been linked to depression. And cholesterol-lowering drugs have been shown to trigger memory loss . (Drug companies want us to forget this — and we may – if we keep taking statin drugs!)

FACT: Low cholesterol is linked to Alzheimer’s. The eminent researcher Iwo J. Bohr recently published a peer-reviewed paper on the subject. He points out that Alzheimer’s patients typically have lower cholesterol and suggests that a great way to prevent the disease may be to eat a high cholesterol diet .

FACT: Low cholesterol is even linked to suicide — and it’s not just because folks are fed up with celery and tofu! The real reason is probably that low cholesterol literally makes you crazy!

And if your idea of instant breakfast is
COFFEE AND A CIGARETTE…

Actually, you’re half right. That morning cup of coffee you crave is one of nature’s real health miracles:

  • JUST DRINK 2-3 CUPS A DAY and presto! You’re 45% less likely to suffer from gallstones…
  • RAISE IT TO 4 CUPS and you dramatically drop your risk of colon cancer (the second deadliest cancer in America)…
  • WANT ONLY ONE CUP? Plug in the pot! Because just one cup of coffee packs the antioxidant power of three fresh oranges.

Monastery of Guadalupe
Another lesser known attraction, also in Extremadura, is the
Monastery of Guadalupe which has long attracted pilgrims since an
image of the Virgin was seen by a shepherd. Columbus named
the Caribbean island after this place. It’s in quite a remote
location in the beautiful Sierra de Guadalupe mountains. Take a few
hours to look around between Toledo and the cities of Extremadura.

Ericsson Lap-Top Computer Giveaway Hoax

Summary:
Message claims that Ericsson will give away a free laptop computer to those who send the message to 8 or more people (Full commentary below).

Status:
False

Update: May 2009
A new, graphical version of the hoax began circulating (See commentary belwo for details).

Example:(Submitted March 2007)

Subject: Free Lap-Top

Hi, everyone

The Ericsson Company is distributing free computer lap-tops in an attempt to match Nokia that has already done so. Ericsson hopes to increase its popularity this way. For this reason, they are giving away the new WAP Laptops. All you need to qualify is to send this mail to 8 people you know. Within 2 weeks, you will receive Ericcson T18. But if you can send it to 20 people or more, you will receive Ericsson R320.

Make sure to send a copy to: anna.swelung@ericcson.com

Commentary:
This email would have us believe that telecommunications equipment supplier Ericsson will give a free laptop computer to those who forward the message to 8 or 20 people. However, this claim is complete nonsense. The message is simply a rehashed version of an older hoax that claimed Erricsson was passing out free mobile phones for forwarding emails.

As hoaxes go, this one is even more absurd than usual. The free products specified in the message are actually mobile phones not computers. Moreover, both the Ericsson T18 and the Ericsson R320 are older models that have now been discontinued. The following text from a previous Ericsson phone hoax suggests that some prankster has attempted to give new life to an old hoax by making some minor changes and substituting “free computer lap-tops” for “free mobile phones”.

Our main competitor, Nokia, is giving free mobile phones away on the Internet. Here at Ericsson we want to counter their offer. So we are giving our newest WAP-phones away as well.

All you have to do, is to forward this message to 8 friends. After two weeks delivery time, you will receive a Ericsson T18. If you forward it to 20 friends, you will receive the brand new Ericsson R320 WAP-phone. Just remember to send a copy to Anna.Swelund@ericsson.com – that is the only way we can see, that you forwarded the message.

Ericsson has published a statement debunking these hoaxes on its website:

Ericsson is not giving away free phones. The chain mail you have received is a fraud and there is no person with the name of Anna Swelund working at Ericsson. At Ericsson, we are constantly looking at new innovative ways to market ourselves, chain e-mails are not one of them. We kindly ask you not to forward the chain mail further.

Similar messages claim that Nokia is the company giving away free phones for forwarding emails. This claim is also totally false.

In fact, any message that claims you can receive free products or money just for forwarding an email is sure to be a hoax. No legitimate company is likely to engage in such a haphazard and uncontrollable method of promoting their products.

Update:
In May 2009, the following graphical version of the hoax began circulating:

In response to the hoax, Sony Erricsson published the following statement on its website:

Hoax Competition Email

12 May 2009

Sony Ericsson has been made aware of an online email campaign claiming that Ericsson will give away a free laptop computer to users who forward the promotional information. The same campaign includes a photograph of the Sony Ericsson logo and mentions an Ericsson contact name and email number.

Sony Ericsson confirms that this email campaign is a hoax. In addition, Sony Ericsson confirms that the Ericsson contact name does not exist.

All competitions and promotions involving Sony Ericsson are run through official channels such as Sony Ericsson’s website or Sony Ericsson’s partners’ websites. Please be wary of any competition or promotion that appears to come from outside of Sony Ericsson or Sony Ericsson’s partners official channels. Examples of these include via spam emails or SMS.

Places to visit in Spain….
Roman Aqueduct in Segovia
This magnificent aqueduct was constructed without mortar and dates
back to 1AD, it is the best preserved Roman monument in Spain.
Segovia is an easy day trip from Madrid though an overnight stay is
preferable. Non-vegetarians will love the local restaurants which
specialise in roast suckling pig and roast lamb dishes. Try to fit
in a visit to El Escorial if heading out this way from Madrid.

The differing landscapes of nature and animals at the Terra Natura animal park in Benidorm, became the set of the movie Di Di Hollywood last Friday, a new film project directed by director Bigas Luna.

Actress Elsa Pataky starred in many film scenes that were filmed in the area of the volcano and at the Asia area of the park.

The Spanish actress, dressed in a Hindu shari, recorded with two different scenes with Asian elephants in the location.

During the day of filming, Elsa Pataky showed his interest in animals of the park and took the opportunity to meet with some of them, including owls, falcons and griffon vultures.

The film’s producers stressed the quality of outdoor scenes and landscapes within the recreation facilities of Terra Natura, which where they finally managed to shoot the scenes of the film, after being postponed twice due to rain.

My good friend Rockin Dave Taylor sent me the following. I have to say it is utterly gob-smacking if you follow the steps. I just wonder how the information came to light and who worked everything out….
Some curious facts:

1) New York City has 11 letters
2) Afghanistan has 11 letters.
3) Ramsin Yuseb (The terrorist who threatened to destroy the Twin Towers in 1993) has 11 letters.
4) George W Bush has 11 letters.

This could be a mere coincidence, but this gets more interesting:

1) New York is the 11th state.
2) The first plane crashing against the Twin Towers was flight number 11.
3) Flight 11 was carrying 92 passengers. 9 + 2 = 11
4) Flight 77 which also hit Twin Towers, was carrying 65 passengers. 6+5= 11
5) The tragedy was on September 11, or 9/11 as it is now known. 9 + 1+ 1= 11
6) The date is equal to the US emergency services telephone number 911. 9+ 1 + 1 = 11

Sheer coincidence..?! Read on and make up your own mind:

1) The total number of victims inside all the hi-jacked planes was 254.
2+ 5 + 4 = 11.
2) September 11 is day number 254 of the calendar year. Again 2 + 5 + 4=11.

3) The Madridbombing took place on 3/11/2004. 3 + 1 + 1 + 2 + 4 = 11.
4) The tragedy of Madrid happened 911 days after the Twin Towers incident.

Now this is where things get totally eerie:

The most recognized symbol for the US, after the Stars & Stripes, is the Eagle. The following verse is taken from the Quran, the Islamic holy book:
“For it is written that a son of Arabia would awaken a fearsome Eagle. The wrath of the Eagle would be felt throughout the lands of Allah while some of the people trembled in despair still more rejoiced: for the wrath of the Eagle cleansed the lands of Allah and there was peace.”
That verse is number 9.11 of the Quran.

Unconvinced about all of this Still ..?! Try this and see how you feel

afterwards:

Open Microsoft Word and do the following:

1. Type in capitals Q33 NY. This is the flight number of the first plane
to hit one of the Twin Towers.
2. Highlight the Q33 NY.
3. Change the font size to 48.
4. Change the actual font to the WINGDINGS
What do you think now?!!

Giving Up Wine

I was walking down the street when I met a particularly dirty and shabby-looking homeless woman who asked me for a couple of dollars for dinner..

I took out my wallet, got out ten dollars and asked, ‘If I give you this money, will you buy wine with it?

‘No, I had to stop drinking years ago’, the homeless woman told me.

‘Will you use it to go shopping instead of buying food.

‘No, I don’t waste time shopping,’ the homeless woman said.
‘I need to spend all my time trying to stay ! alive.’

‘Will you spend this on a beauty salon instead of food?’ I asked.

‘Are you NUTS!’ replied the homeless woman.
I haven’t had my hair done in 20 years!’

‘Well, I said, ‘I’m not going to give you the money.
Instead, I’m going to take you out for dinner
with my husband and me tonight.’

The homeless Woman was shocked.
‘Won’t your husband be furious with you for doing that?
I know I’m dirty, and I probably smell pretty disgusting.’

‘That’s okay. It’s important for him to see what a woman
looks like after she has given up shopping, hair appointments, and wine.’!

banner22-457x112The weather has been beautiful although a little rain has been around. I have been so busy that I just don’t know where the day has gone. I would rather be that way than feel time is dragging. There are reasons why I am so busy and I will be explaining in due course. I suppose this sounds mighty secretive but the names have been blanked out o protect the innocent. I am starting this blog with a very interesting article written by my friend the rebel doctor. He seems to have a very good spin on many things and if this helps just one person then it is worth the effort. Here comes the message….

Vitamin B6 may slow tumorsI know it might sound crazy, but the best approach to prostate cancer is often to do nothing at all.If you leave it alone, chances are you’ll never have a problem with your prostate — and the latest study shows that vitamin B6 could help keep it that way.

Swedish researchers studied 525 prostate cancer patients who got different amounts of this great nutrient. Those at the low end had between 1.3 and 1.9 milligrams daily, which is right around the recommended amount. But some in the study received between 2.2 and 2.9 milligrams each day. And when you’re done reading this, you’ll probably want that amount too — because the researchers found that the extra B6 boost improved prostate cancer survival by 29 percent. If that can help even one man skip the scalpel, I’ll celebrate.
